Because the internet is being uncooperative or exspensive. I have a 91 RS with a 305 TBI. I have a ram air hood so I should not need to worry about spacing and since I have a ram air hood it is kind of silly having the stock snorkel. I just want a cheap base and cover that works preferably with the stock size air filter since you know I already have one. Unless there is some advantage to having a larger one I am not seeing. I just don't see the point in paying $135 for two stamped pieces of sheet metal and a filter I already have. You can link to wherever advanced, autozone, ebay, amazon, obscureautopartsstore.com, etc. They don't need to look good, I can paint them if I really need too. They just need to work.

 

I gota cheap drop base open element from summit around $27 shipped i think. It fit perfect and you can get it with or without the logo.

 

Autozone will have cheap ones on the shelf. 14x3"

 

This work? Is the center stud going to be compatible with it or will I need to go to the hardware store and get a longer one?

I don't see why not. You may need a longer stud, but that's just a quick trip to the hardware store.
