IAC Question

I'm sick of searching. Pretty straight forward question. Does the IAC have an actual way of sensing its position or is the ecm just computing it from pulse with? I assume due to four wires it has a sensor but there is an old saying to go with assume for a reason. Thanks guys.

No.

The IAC is a stepping motor, the four wires are two for each coil (2 coils). The ECM keeps track of the commanded position (in steps), but that can be off if the IAC is bad, gummy, or sticking.

RBob.

Re: IAC Question

I get why they count the position in steps now. Great answer RBob.
