e85 TBI chip?

Has anyone played with e85 in TBI? I didn't find much in the search.
Thanks

Re: e85 TBI chip?

Tough getting enough fuel through a TBI to make any real power.

Getting enough E-85 through the two injectors will be even worse.

If you're not looking for "real" power, (i.e., very high compression, and dumping LOTS of E-85) there's no reason to waste time, money, effort, or enthusiasm on "exotic" fuel. Around here, E-85 is not that much less expensive than E-10, but the energy content would be considerably less.

I'm trying to figure out if it will help pass smog easier. The car has been on no-op for a few years and I have to smog it now.

I was watching a documentary on Brazil and they made it seem like it was easy to switch over. Some guy invented a piggyback module that extend the duration of the injector opening and adjusted the timing. A lot of people on this board burn their own chips it should be easy for them to do, I would think.

Why not just fix what's wrong with the vehicle that prevents it from passing the emissions test?

It may pass. I'm planning to smog it next week. It took 6 months with my work schedule to find all the gremlins in my jeep to pass. I'd like to avoid that again if possible.

Ethanol added to gasoline will make it burn cleaner. I wouldn't go full on E85, but a few gallons of it in a tank of gas would help.

Changing the engine oil & filter just before the test is also helpful in reducing emissions.

I read in south America they used E85 with TBI. Not sure how to locate those huge injectors. Also fuel line issues to deal with.

Re: e85 TBI chip?

I run e85 in my stock 92 305 TBI camaro pretty regularly.
I have removed the air pump and the rest of the air system
but all stock otherwise.
In the summer months no problem
at all on straight e85,
But in the spring and fall when its a
little colder in the morning the engine has a little hesitation
untill it gets up to operating temp.
In the winter I dont even bother with e85 because I cant get
the temperature hot enough to run without a hesitation.
Stock chip, timing, injectors, and fuel pressure.

I have tried a 350 throttle body and injectors and it helped
on ice cold startups but on warm and hot restarts sometimes
would floodout and not start without holding the gas pedal to the floor.

I have been running it on e85 for about 5 years and have never
had any problems with the fuel system or the fuel going bad.

Re: e85 TBI chip?

Flood out sounds like too much cranking fuel.

Needs a .bin modification/prom tune.

Re: e85 TBI chip?

sooner or later I'm going to have to get a chip burned or switch to a flashable computer but I'm still trying to see how good I can get it to run on e85 without changing the chip.
so far it seems to run best with the 305 injectors and the fuel pressure cranked up and the engine at operating temps (the hotter the better)
I'm not running e85 for more performance, the thing I like about e85 is its like running the best fuel system cleaner all the time and it always passes emissions.

when ever my carbed 82 elamino starts running a little crappy from sitting around, I run a tank of e85 through that too and it always cleans out the carb.
