Re: TBI 305 mods

the only mods that will make a big difference in power is cam and heads but those aren't really "simple mods". and if you were gonna go through with pulling the heads off then why not just pull the block out and put in a 350.

Most people are gonna tell you to put headers and an exhaust on it but its not really gonna do too much for you in terms of a power increase.

why do you want to use the 305?

i want to keep the car original, it is a 305tbi car, i dont really want to change that. im getting an exhaust done soon (deleting cat and installing a magnaflow muffler) so it should in a sense sound faster, idk i dont mind the 305, ive had this car since i was 6 years old, and im 17 now so i enjoy driving it, im definitely the only one pulling up in a 3rd gen to school haha, and im very proud of that

Re: TBI 305 mods

before I swapped to 350, I put 1.6 ratio roller rockers, removed the cat, installed hooker shorty headers and 3" exhaust and that made a huge improvement, I think a good free flowing exhaust and a little more valve lift will give you the performance your looking for without tearing down the engine and at the same time keeping it original.

Let me give you a hint. If you're talking about modifying the car, you're NOT talking about keeping it original. It can be modified, or it can be original, but it can not be both.

This is like hearing people talk about "restoring" a car, and then they give you a list of thirty things they're going to customize.

i dont necessarily want to keep it all original down to a little screw under the dash, i just would like to keep the 305, do an exhaust, keep the exterior nice no stupid wing or paint job, just the original color (red with silver ground effects) with the GTA spoiler and GTA wheels with a lowering kit. i dont plan on ever selling this car so im not trying to use it as an investment and keep it 100% original. you know what i mean?

Exactly, there’s no mods that will bump the power up and keep it original.

If a thirdgen is not an ultra clean low mile car then it will be a long long time before it’s claim as a “numbers matching car” will fetch you any decent money over any other decent thirdgen.

put a mild cam in that will work well within the parameters of the TBI’s stock tune (Better yet get a tune) and you’ll keep the original look and engine but gain a little power. Put headers and an exhaust on and that’ll put you where you want to be

3.42-3.73 gears, mild S10 torque converter, shift kit, good 3in exhaust. It will feel like a different car.

Re: TBI 305 mods

As others have mentioned, you will want to address the exhaust. You certainly can cam these motors but you will need to learn how to tune the chip. Mail order won't work and the stock tune cannot accept any cam deviation from stock. Your car will be slower with mods and no tune.
