Car doesn't fire

I have a 92 RS 305 tbi that will spin but won't fire in less a little starting fluid is used. Then it'll start run very rough then die immediately. Any idea to a cause? Also I should mention it ran the day before then I let the battery die overnight by mistake but I wouldn't think that would have done anything.

Based on my recent experience w/ a random No-Start... start with the basics.

1. Do you have Fuel?
2. Do you have Spark? - Check between Cap & Coil, then between Coil and Plug

Yup, I'd want to know if the pump runs for 2 seconds when the key is turned "on", and whether there's fuel pressure during cranking.

Next would be to verify both power and ground for the injectors. A Noid light would be ideal.

If it runs on starting fluid, there must be spark to at least some cylinders.

I have no idea, but at least some of the diagnosis would be the same--TBI or TPI, it's going to need fuel pressure and power/ground to the injectors. Spark, compression, and exhaust seem to be likely since it runs on starting fluid--but he does say it runs rough, so having spark, compression and exhaust on all eight cylinders may be a question.
