Re: 1990 Camaro 5.7 TBI starter issue

First Guess: Welded copper disc in starter solenoid. Can happen any time, most common when battery gets weak and you try to start the engine. Voltage on the purple wire is back-feeding from the starter, not being supplied "upstream".

Remove starter, replace entire starter; replace only the solenoid; install solenoid repair kit, or just polish the bigass copper disc after breaking the weld.

Starter will crank until it melts the battery cables or you disconnect the cable from the battery. You cannot stop the starter from cranking as long as the battery is connected. If this isn't what's happening, then the disc in the solenoid isn't welded.

Fix the starter cranking problem before worrying about the fuel pump.
