1. They're cheap. Can usually find a used one for less than $100.
2. They are a roller cam. Direct swap for a L03.
3. They have quite a bit more lift and duration than our weak cams. That means more power.
4. From what I've read on here, you can still use your stock valve springs without any problems at all. That means it costs nothing more than new gaskets to put one in.
I'm sure there are quite a few more, but those are the main reasons.

5. The lift numbers are perfect for a 305. Not too high to bring the valve shrouding effects into play.
The Lt1 cam is just a great cam for the price and results. It plays very well with the stock components and is still computer friendly. All this from a OEM cam.
