it's in the bottom of the stock air cleaner on my 1989 305 TBI ...

does anybody know how to remove one of these without destroying it?

it's not obvious to me.

Spread-open the round spring-clip.

Don't be surprised if it breaks. I don't think it's intended to let go without a fight.
