Engine surge

Hi guys..I have a 83 TA 305 tbi ..had it since 89 and when she get hot after 5 or so hrs she starts surging hard. Switch her off after half hr of cooling down she is good to go again. Checked most things replaced fuel pump o2 sensor which came up in the codes but it still does it .. now im thinking about the ecu temp sensor in the front of the manifold . question I have is has anyone else had this issue and does anyone know the temp sensor part number
Thank you for reading..and any help.. AJ

Re: Engine surge

1. What is the fuel pressure after 5 hours of running? Restricted tank vent, after running awhile the tank has so much vacuum the pump can't move fuel???

2. How old are the usual "tune-up" parts--cap, rotor, plug wires, plugs, air and fuel filters, PCV system verified, initial timing verified, timing advance verified, EGR system verified?

3. Will the ignition coil RELIABLY fire a spark-tester calibrated for HEI after 5 hours of running? Use a spark-tester that has an actual spark-gap, not a tester that flashes a stupid light-bulb.

4. Connect a scan tool, look for "codes" but more-important, look at the data stream. Verify EVERY sensor and computer output, preferably after 5 hours of running.

thanks for the reply. I was working as a mechanic at the time took it to pointiac in reno and they coudnt work it out .replaced hei coil twice plugs are done every 15 k did check the fuel pump pressure also replaced pump also removed gass cap to check for vacuum while it was doing it ..did insulate the fuel lines cause it was a bit like vapour lock on carby car .. replaced fuel filter a few times too. Thank you for your input I will check he rest of what you wrote after i fit the new temp sensor...
