Well folks… I’m back… I took an almost ten year brake on my 1991 camaro.
when i joined the group I was in Afghanistan and when I came home on leave I picked up my all original 1991 RS Camaro.
when I got home life kicked in and I knocked a women up and well… let’s just say I’m married now and not with the boys mom 😜
anyway… I got my shop built and the car back home and it’s off to the races.
the throttle body is bored and milled, new 62 pound injectors, single plain intake, cam, springs, seals….new 3.73 gears.. Ect ect…. You get the idea…
The one question I have is has anyone ran 1.6 rockers on a stock 187 (TBI) head ?
That is actually a very small cam even for a TBI system. On a 114 LSA that should barely be noticeable in terms of idle quality. I tuned a 232/240 @ 0.050 on a 108 LSA in a 10.5:1 383 using the later model 93-95 TBI truck PCM that was used in the 4L60E and 4L80E trucks. I tuned a dual TBI setup on a tunnel ram on a 406 with a solid roller and 215cc AFR heads. The solid roller was even bigger on a 106 LSA. The solid roller made like 7 in/hg vacuum at 850 rpm.
The Erson cam I just had ground for my 97 Express van is a 218/218 @ 0.050 on a 112 LSA with 0.544 lift using 1.6 rockers. I have had a 218/228 on a 108 LSA and 106 ICL with 0.536" lift using 1.6s in it for a while. I put 1.5 exhaust rockers on it a while back. I am only switching out because I want something that idles more smoothly, is smoother running off-idle holding lockup and overdrive down to ~1,000 rpm around town and gets better fuel mileage.
Well I got her running tonight. It’s the stock tune on the EBL ecm so she’s super super rich (65 pound injectors and 18 psi spring) but she runs.
I went to a vortech long slot roller tip rocker so I could use the stock covers… the full rollers were 1.6 and the chance of the push rods hitting the slot in the head is high with out drilling then out…
she is NASTY with that 480/488 cam in her… hopefully I can get the laptop to connect with the ecm tomorrow and I can start tuning.

Very cool! Remember we like video clips with sound too. If you need a second set of eyes on the EBL bin file and datalogs let me know. I have worked with that platform myself since before it was released to the general public. Recently helped PlayingwithTBI a bit on his tune when he built his 383 with the Comp 230/236 @ 0.050 XR276 grind. The EBL makes easy work out of this compared to how we tuned these 20 years ago with the stock 6299, 7747 or 8746s 160 baud ECMs.
