Stayin with the 305, guess on HP after mods and what am i missing?
I posted not long ago about goin with a 350 or stayin with the 305. I have decided to stay with the 305. Not to be unique or anything, just a little cheaper and it'll be good enough for me. I want to get some Sportsman II head from World Products and the Sportsman II intake to match it. On the heads do I have to get angle plug or straight plug or doesn't it matter? Do I have to get 64cc or 72cc or doesnt it matter either? Do I need single spring or double spring is that a matter of how much money I want to spend? How much horsepower could I pull out of my Lo3 with the Sportsman II's and a cam with a lift of about .480/.500 and a duration adv. of 278/288? When I get them I plan on a complete engine rebuild also but what else will I need to get? Anything at all? Is anyone else running the Sportsman II's and if so could you tell me what exactly you have? Thanks for any help in advance.

The heads you'll want if you want to say non vortec are the World Products Torquer IIs with the 58 cc chambers. The 64s are for 350s, and thus will lower your compression to low.
Although you could go with the L31 vortec heads, get the whole package from SDPC for $700 (includes heads assembled, 1.5 roller rockers, edelbrock intake manifold, all mounting hardware, gaskets), and get the Holley squarebore - tbi adaptor. Have the heads milled down from 62 cc to 58cc and you'll see prolly about 300 hp with a decent cam.
:lala:
I wish I had money!!
edit - I think the duration on that cam is waaaaaaaaay too high. Look for something closer to 210...

If I went with the L31 and got the whole package, the TBI adapter ( price? ), and a cam with a duration around .210 I should be around 300HP? The L31's will need to be milled down? 300 is actually higher than I had hoped. With 300 ponies (sorry mustang guys) will I need a new torque converter or anything else ? Where do I go to get this $700 package from SPDC? Anyone got a link or phone number or know where to go?

Well... assuming that you run a larger throttle body, a good intake manifold, and have full exhaust, I wouldnt say 300 hp at the flywheel is out of the question. Car Craft got 325 hp at the flywheel using the vortec heads with a not-so-radical cam and a 750 cfm carb.

The vortec kit is SD PN: 8060KIT
Im sure the others could give you a better technical pick of a cam though. The stock LT1 might be exactly what you're looking for, and that'd only be $30 - $50.

Thanks for the help Chuck!. I am very interested in that kit. I guess a LT1 cam would do fine for me unless someone else can recommed a better one. Anyone have one for sale by any chance or can you recommed a good size throttle body or brand of throttle body? I guess now I have a project for the next few months. Thanks again Chuck!.

The only problem you'll run into with the kit is that the manifold does not have egr, but I thought there's a way to plumb it off your headder/manifold. Do you guys have E*Check in Mansfield? I have relatives there, btw

I guess we don't have E*check cause I have no idea what that is but I could be totally wrong. I just read the link from an earlier post....what a coincedence, my L03 just turned over 80,000 miles. I guess now I have a good list of parts. $408 for heads is awesome and the intake and cam can't be that expensive. Thanks alot Chuck!.
