4th Gen Firebird.....
4th Gen Firebird.....
I have a 91 RS 305 TBI Auto... I just got outrun by a 4th gen firebird, not a TA, just a Firebird...
what do these things come with and what do they run????
It had the stock dual exhaust if that tells you anything....
I realize that I'm not driving a racecar, but if this thing was a six cylinder I think I'm going to be sick....

Mid 15's high 15's, somewhere around there. It doesn't surprise me a stock 305 TBI auto got beat by one. I believe they have a higher gear ratio as well.
well later this afternoon I was told by someone who claimed to know the girl driving the firebird, that it was a TA....
so I dont know....
i kept up until bout 85 and they started pulling away just a little so I shut it down cuz we were on the street and I certainly don't need the po po on me no mo....

Welcome to the 305 slug club. Get used to getting whacked by newer better powered cars... some 4 bangers too. Hopefully you won't stay there long.
4th gen Firebirds and Camaros come with a GEN II 3.8L V6 rated at 200 HP 225 ft/lbs.
This is the same motor I had in my '99 Grand Prix. GT. The GTP with the blower gives you 240HP 280 ft/lbs. HOw would you feeling getting whacked by a front runner?!
V8s only available on Z28, Formula, Z28 SS, Trans Am and Firehawk base rating of 310 HP 340 ft lbs.
You're stock LO3 is rated at a whopping 170 hp and 255 ft/lbs
If it was a V8 4th gen you wouldn't have kept up at all unless they were toying with you...

Kinda Sucks?????
I think I'm going to cry....
I'm getting my income tax and my pell money (school grant) about the same time, that will total to about 1000 bucks, however, there is a delima.... My girlfriend is pressuring me for a ring, and I'd love to buy her one (the one she picked is $4000) but I want to mod my car some, and some work needs to be done to my other camaro too....
ah, this really really sucks.....
If I don't spend at least some of the money on her, I'll never live it down, but If I spend it all on her Then I'll still be getting outrun by a 6 cyl....
AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
THIS SUCKS!!!!
I'm probably gonna buy the ring,a nd worry about the car later

When you and your girl break up you will have a ring which is worthless... (BEEN THERE DONE THAT) had I KNOWN I would have spent the money on a blower that would have crowned my 383. After it was said and done the chick was gone and the car was still here...at least I got the ring back. Too bad the resale on the ring was no where near what I paid for it... STAY CLEAR OF WHITEHALL and if you never bought a Diamond go with someone who knows diamonds.
Word to the wise, a girl who's worth it won't pressure you into anything and if she feels like she has to compete over a car, well then that's a sign of her true character. The ring should be something you can afford and a sign of your love and commitment to her not something with a High price tag that SHE WANTS you to get her...
Hey but if your in love and she's the one well then go for it, I just hate to see another dude get burned...
If I could do it all over again I would have kicked the bitch to the curb and bought the blower...at least now I know better.

Thanks man
Those are true words from the heart, I'm sorry to hear about the girl and the ring and the blower (or lack there of).
But I may be able to have the best of both worlds. I've found a friend who claims his father has a crate LT1 thats been bored 30 over, and he wants to sell it for 200 dollars.... Hmm sounds suspicious doesn't it? I'm thinkin its probably just the block and heads, maybe a few other parts.....
But if that works out, I'll get the LT1 and a darn nice downpayment on the ring....
I didn't mean it to sound like it did... She's not pressuring me, we have discussed it and we both agree that now is a good time, or at least some time real soon.... I want to buy her a ring as much as she wants me to buy her one, and I want to buy her this ring, because its the one she wants....
Why should I take someone who knows about diamonds???
What should I be looking for???
any quick tips???
thanks a bunch.... and I appreciate the caring....

I'm glad to hear that.
Diamonds and diamond selection are in a world of their own. I will teach you a little bit of what I learned AFTER I got burned on my ring purchase from Whitehall.
As Far as Diamonds Go remember the 4 "C"s
CARAT
CUT
COLOR
CLARITY
CARAT: This referes to the Carat weight of the cut. A Marquis diamond will look bigger than a solitare of the same carat weight, because of the way a Maquis is shaped.
CUT is exaclty what it means: Solitare, Princess, Marquis to name a few. The quality of the cut is important, this involves proportions.
COLOR: A Perfect diamond has no color. Diamonds range from perfectly clear to yellowish. GRADED D-Z AS FOLLOWS:
D being truly colorless and of the highest quality.
E and F are also graded as colorless while G, H, I and J are near colorless.
Diamonds graded K, L, and M will have obvious hints of color and as the scale approaches P you may find subtle changes in hue and tone.
The exceptions to the rule are "Fancy" diamonds- in well-highlighted colors that include pink, blue, red, green, and canary yellow. These are particularly rare and highly treasured.
To appreciate the quality of a colorless diamond, compare several stones side by side with a jeweler.
CLARITY: not to be confused with color, Clarity means the pureness of the diamond a perfect Diamond has no inclusions (contaminants, or mircoscopic cracks) Diamonds range from perfect clarity to varying degrees of inclusions.
The clarity of a diamond determines how captivating its gleam is. All diamonds have identifying characteristics, but most are invisible to the naked eye. Under the scrutiny of a jeweler's 10X magnifying loupe the appearance of tiny crystals, feathers or clouds can be identified. These natural phenomena are called inclusions. Large inclusions may interfere with the path of light cascading through a diamond, thus effecting its vibrancy. There are five categories in class that anyone interested in purchasing a diamond should be aware of when grading clarity.
FL & IF
Diamonds that reveal no flaws on the surface or internally. These are the rarest and most beautiful gems treasured for their absolute purity.
VVS1 or VVS2
Diamonds with minute inclusions absolutely invisible to the naked eye. Only through careful inspection with a microscope can these tiny inclusions be accurately pinpointed. The brilliance of the stone does not suffer in this category.
VS1 or VS2
Diamonds with tiny inclusions difficult to locate. Only a trained eye looking through a 10X loupe can pinpoint the inclusions in this category. The inclusions are nearly impossible to see with the naked eye.
SI1 - SI3
Diamonds with inclusions easily identified through a loupe. Finding flaws in this category with the naked eye is difficult for the SI1 - SI2 range. The gems in this category maintain their integrity, depending on the location of the inclusions. They are an attractive choice when working within a fixed budget without sacrificing beauty or value. Inclusions in an SI3 graded diamond may be seen to the unaided eye, although not with substantial ease. Consider an SI3 as a good I1.
I1 - I3
Diamonds with inclusions which may be seen by the naked eye. The flaws on the I2-I3 range in this category might have some effect on the brilliance of your diamond.
Be sure whoever you buy your ring from advertises their Diamonds with these criteria as well as certify them with either of these three certificates:
EGL Certificate
GIA Certificate
IGI Certificate
This guarantees the value of the Diamond.
Whitehall and other Chain Store Jewelers do not use these criteria and have their own rating system which is for ****. STAY CLEAR OF JEWELERS WHO DO NOT USE THESE CRITERIA OR CERTIFY THEIR DIAMONDS WITH ANY OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED CERTIFICATES. They lure people in who don't know better and of course tell you that you cannot return any items but can trade them in for store credit. You will never get your money back!!!
My so-called Whitehall 3000 ring was really worth only 750 bucks! I DID NOT want to keep it and had to take in the A_S_S to get rid of it.
Whitehall's so-called GRADE "A" diamond was no more SI2 diamond in the P range of color ie not worth 3000!! really worth $750
Be leary of "Big Carat" rings Cut, Color, and Clarity IS MORE important than actual size.
When you start looking you need to weigh your choices. I was lured by size, the first time. Not again. Next time it will be a 1 carat Princess Cut D in color IF in clarity. (ie $$$$$$$) as they say you pay for the "Fire" in the diamond.
When you start comparing the smaller higher quality stones to the larger more imperfect counterparts you WILL see the Difference with the naked eye!!
Good Luck Hope this Helps!!!

I only dealt with Whitehall. If those 2 jewelers use the 4 C's and rate their Diamonds like I described you should be OK. Just make sure they will certify the diamond with any of those three certificates I mentioned before you put one penny down on it. Don't believe the "Well your store receipt certifies the diamond with us and you can always trade in the diamond for store credit." if they pull this then they are selling you an inferior stone at a hyper-inflated price.
Just because I got burned doesn't mean you should too. Remember to pass this advise on to one of your friends when the time comes. The fact that I am trying to keep people out of these stores is reward enough for me...
Again try to avoid the Chain Stores; Whitehall, etc. at the Malls.
See if there's a "Jeweler's Row" where you live. Most large cities will have a part of downtown devoted to this business. These are upscale stores, you will pay a pretty penny but 99.9999% of the time they will certify their products.
