yeah that looks like a TBI engine. it would be easier to tell if there was no air cleaner on
You can tell it is a TBI engine b/c the earlier carbs (at least on thirdgens...) had the alternator on the other side where the A/C conpressor is on L03's...Now, if that aint outta a thirdgen, I couldny tell ya if its carbed or TBI w/ the air cleaner on...

Someone already used this description previously, but it explains it simply ad concisely. TPI: Looks like a huge silver spider is humping your engine. TBI: Looks like a big trash can lid on top of your engine. You have a LO3 engine aka 305 ci. Peanut cammed TBI. Welcome to the club.

same here, i didnt know anything about my car last year, started coming to this site and did a lot of reading. Within a few months was doing my own headers along with alot of other stuff, and found out that it is a whole lot of fun. but it sucks now being at school, no time to work on my baby. I guess ill just have to wait until spring break. Just do a lot of reading and you will learn
I can't belive I'm been on this board almost a year now, and the amount of knowledge I've absorbed here is just amazing. You guys are in the right place!
I still love the "spider humping the engine" analogy

HrdRock: you're tellin me! When I started going on message boards a few years ago I didnt know the difference between a head and a headder. Now Im going to be porting my own heads and putting a cam in my car. Its so cool... imagine having to go to the *gasp* library and *gasp* getting a book to learn this stuff!

As far as the air cleaner you are correct in that I only have one of two ducts hooked up. I have some things out of the engine bay in those photos while working on things. I am also missing the strut tower brace. By the way I could tell no differance with two ducts hooked up to the air cleaner and if you stop to think about it look under the hood of a 2002 Vette and check the single hose that it has feeding a much higher output engine.

Buck I forgot to mention that the air cleaner is the stock LO3 that has been modified to use the larger 4" ducts, has no ring down in the throttle body and uses a 1" taller lid from a LO5 cop car to get a larger filter in there.
It's all eazy to do

Ah. Yes, that makes sense, since it wouldnt make much sense to close up another snorkle!
That hose you are using is it the ducting for the L69, or is it something else? Right now I just got the base, no snorkles, and I really dont wanna pay $55 for some plastic. I dont wanna pay $55 if I can get away with something cheap that looks...not cheap...

Buck.... the ducting is stock replacement from Autozone. For what auto I don't remember as it was purchased in 1995. It does hold up well and it was around $10 then. It is longer than the stock L69 hose.
The hard plastic snorkal that's attached to the radiator support is the stock piece shortened on both ends. You don't really have to cut the front but the rear has to be cut until it is the large enough to match the 4" hose. If you need pics let me know.
Good luck

So you got it at autozone? I wonder what its replacing...Maybe I'll check it out this week...time permitting. Unless you got a few already on your comp, I'll be ok w/o pix. but thatnx for the info!
