ok.. got the new engine running!

well we finally got her all done and running yesterday.. edelbrock 6085 heads, 3704 intake 3702 cam.. edelbrock prom, edelbrock headers.. msd6a, msd cap, rotor, ac delco 8mm wires.. t&t performance 1" spacer, non drop air cleaner with k&n 14x4" filter.. she seems to run good.. can't drive it yet.. have to wait for the roads to dry and put colision back on the insurance policy. now it's running just the headers with ypipe.. no cat or muffler right now.. I have to get it down to the exhaust shop and have a piece made so I can use my 3" cutout. the only prob I have right now is I ran it for 1/2 hour and the temp won't go higher than 40degrees C which is the first bar on the gauge.. I know the gauge works because it drops back down when I unplug it... now I running a stewart pump & stewart 180 degree thermostat.. if I give it a quick shot sometimes it hesitates a little.. this is in park . right now base timing is set to 0 t'ill the first 1000km's then edelbrock says to set it to 8 btdc.. she's pretty loud right now (of course) ... and if I put it in gear with the brakes on and give it a little tap of gas she wants to go.

one thing I forgot to mention.. it's about -5 Celcius here right now.. which is like 23F.. and the engine temp only goes up to 40 which is 104 F

winaldl /problems

ok I tried a few things with winaldl .. basically testing my cable at the same time.. winaldl seems like a pretty handy software.. of course I still can't drive it because of damn snow here.. now winaldl tonight was showing a temp of 14.8 degrees C. outside temp was actually -1. now I don't know if it's because the coolant was still warm from having it running 5 hours earlier... the other thing is my o2 reading was .455V without the vehicle running.. once warmed up and in closed loop idling I was getting .775 as the low and like .995 as the high.. which eventually after giving it a few shots of gas triggered a rich code and also a blm learn mode code which around the same time caused the check engine light to come on(probably because of code 45).. now could all this be because I haven't driven the vehicle yet and the ecm is still not adjusted itself?

thanks

If I start my van up cold and let it idle too long it doesn't like me. I think you really need to go drive it to get it nice and warmed up. Load up the sand bags and go for a "spin".

Are you running short or long tube headers? The fact that you don't have a y-pipe may also add to your problems. Don't know what drp means either, but if it has anything to do with fords get rid of it , you will soon find out as the boards get busy again. Nice looking engine by the way.

you can get a really nice "Y" tranisiton pipe from Flowmaster for those headers for about $35.

I do have a y-pipe.. just nothing after that.. these headers are shorty type headers that bolt to the factory ypipe.. I ended up buying a brand new y pipe because the old one had bad flanges..

is the o2 suppose to show .455 volts when the engine isn't running? I thought it only produced voltage after a certain temp.. I will also check my block temp sensor tonight .. it will have been sitting for 24 hours that way it should be same as outside temp..

DRP is Distributer Reference Pulse. I'm not sure exactly what that flag is trying to tell you, but it will go on and off like you said. So will the rich flag.

The O2 will show around .450v when cold. When it warms up then it starts to "swing" around. Meaning, the voltage will jump up and down.

took her out for a drive!

ok.. we took it out for a spin tonight.. did about 25km's total trip with it.. it's freakin loud in the cab with just headers and y pipe.. hopefully by the week end I'll get the rest of the exhaust put on.. anyhow it was about -5C here tonight when we started it up.. let it warm up for about 5 mins.. code 45 came up again while idling.. as soon as I started driving down the road the light came off.. I still couldn't get the damn thing to warm up though.. damn clutch fan must be keeping it too cool for this time of year.. I barely even get heat.. temp gauge still only went to about 50C which is 122F.. seems to run good.. hard to tell with the damn exhaust being so loud..

Running in cold weather with low back pressure can cause you to burn a valve!

I heard that could only happen if the exhaust doesn't extend far enough.. but I have the headers and xover pipe.. just stops where the cat is suppose to go..
