Tach is acting weird, help me fix it!
I got today off from work and I want to fix my tach.
It says I idle at 3,000. The tach is never jerky, and its ground is fine including the grounding strap. It just idles at 3000 and goes from there. I guess it needs calibration. How do I do it? Kinda sucks,I dont know where I'm shifting at and always seeing myself crusing at 7k revs...
Cmon guys help me out.

Cmon guys help me out. sounds like a intermitted short in the tach circuit, recheck everything again, you might have dig into the dash a check the wiring with a volt meter, if you have a fluke meter it will a be cake to do, if not you might have to go by sight or voltage fluxuation on the meter while testing your circuit

Rs'er, check your oil pressure sensor and the wiring... when they go bad they will either make your guage register really low or peg at the top. Also, guages will do that if the little "spring thing" inside breaks. Happened on my brothers IROC water temp guage.

gauges
I have a '90, and had almost the same problem. It would read idle at around 2500 rpm, however, if I floored it, the tack would shoot to 7000rpm in like half a second or less. The gauge did not read like it needed recalibration. But if yours is doing this, the gauges motor is simply bad. I went on ebay, and purchased one for a total of $34.00, and it works just fine.
