Ignition setup questions

I have a 91' RS w/ 305 TBI.....I'm doing a tune-up and I want to use MSD parts for it since I already have a coil and 6A box left over from another project. So the question is...what are the part numbers for a cap, rotor and custom fit 8.5 mm wires for our cars from MSD??

Side note here......the left over coil is a Blaster 2, will this work and is there anything else I need to buy so the box will hook up?

One more; this is the last I swear .....I plan on putting on Hooker Comp Headers later, so with the wires do I need anlged or straight boots for the Rapidfires???

Plug Wires

MSD SuperConductor 8.5mm
MSD Part #: 31359 $58.95 from Summit

Coil

MSD Blaster GM Coil
MSD Part #: 8226 $38.95 from Summit

Cap and Rotor

MSD Cap and Rotor
MSD Part #: 8426 (cap), 8427 (rotor) $21.39 (Cap), $6.99 (rotor) from Summit

i am pretty sure those are the plug wires... u should get angled boots...the straight ones will run into the headers... i had the same problem with a set of wires with my edelbrock headers. hope this helps

my bad on the coil..i thought u had a different one... i got the accel super coil..same setup though. all u do is sisconnect the 2 harnesses going to the coil, cut the harnesses off and solder the red ones together and the white ones together... after that put those heat shrink sleeves around them and then some electrical tape to guarantee a good connection... then connect the red ones to the positive and white to negative using crimp connectors that fit over the studs on the coil and put a nut over it. actually pretty simple. i'll take a pic of how i did mine if nobody beats me to it.

A diagram would definately help, but if I were to just buy the Blaster Coil, it just bolts right in eh?? Also, I have a 6A box left over from the previous project as well, can this just plug in or do I need something else?? Is it even worth taking the box off the old project and putting in the RS??

Life is full of questions, but not always answers

Camaroguy71....

Your part numbers are throwing me a bit.
You mention MSD-8427 for a rotor, I came up with part # MSD-8410 using the MSD-8426 cap. The MSD-8427 is for the MSD-8366 distributor according to Summit. Will this rotor work for the 8426 cap??

Reason I question it....
I'm getting my tune-up list ready and have got my parts figured out or at least I think I do.

Could you clarify on the rotor for me please.

At thr risk of stealing this thread....

As mentioned above, I'm in tune-up mode as well and here is my list of parts.

MSD-8226 Coil
MSD-8426 Dist. Cap
MSD-8410/MSD-8427 Rotor
MSD-31859 Wires

Plus plugs of which I have not figured out yet as to what to get. Leaning towards AC Delco Plugs

How does this set-up look for a stock 305 TBI?
Do I stand a chance to see a little bit of difference in the throttle repsonse with this set-up?

Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

MSD cap and rotor don't work??

Well the fun never stops huh?? I decided just to call up MSD and talk to a human being and he said that the cap (p/n 8426) and rotor (p/n 8427) don't work all that well on our cars. Something about them being too loose. He said some guy that works there put one on his car and it wasn't a good fit.

So I guess I'm going to have to find another cap and rotor kit...
Does anybody know anything about HYPERTECH'S kit (p/n 4060)??

However, for those of you who would like to know for sure which MSD Super Conductor Wires w/ angle boots fit our cars it's p/n 31419, and the Blaster GM Coil is p/n 8226. These are straight from the horse's mouth. I am forgoing any responsiblity for what you do with those numbers. Got to watch my back and all that legal b.s.
