Poor Gas Milage
Poor Gas Milage
Well, my gas milage sucks. 11 mpg give or take
Anyways, its cold out, and I dont have a garage to use. I have thought of some reasons I may get poor milage
- Bad plugs/wires, or coil - plugs/wires/cap/rotors and both coils new but a few thousand miles ago (bosch platnuims (NOT +4)
- miss(es) - maybe, need to break out timing light and check (i wanna find a inductive first, I got a non-inductive)
- Bad O2 sensor - just replaced it with a new one from NAPA
- Clogged cat - tested for pressure @ tail pipes, there's pretty good presure
- Hard driving - most ppl say that they get about 18 mpg (with 305) even if they driv it hard (and I dont open her up all the time!)
I dunno if I am missing something, or if my car is just FUBAR, but man, this is killin me!

I just realized, maybe it appears I have bad gas mileage. I never really checked, but all you guys know we have some VERY friggen small tanks in our cars. I only ever fill up 12 gallons at MAX. 12 Gal @ 15mpg = 180 miles. Thats nothing here in houston to put on.

I doubt you'll notice a difference (at least not for the better) in mpg with headers.
I was getting 25-30 highway (driving only highway, 75-80mph, on a couple trips) and 17-22 mixed city/highway, during the summer. Now I am only getting 15-17mpg. I don't know if that has more to do with the cold or the full exhaust I put on in Nov... maybe I need to tune her a bit better, but I need to wait on that until I have more time and warmer temps...

I get about 16-18 mpg in the city. I drive pretty hard and it really doesn't effect it ALL that much. Of course I still have my 2.73 rear end
I would trade a couple mpg for a 3.73 anyday. Any mod that you do that increases your car's ability to be an air pump is going to increase mpg (that i until you stomp on it and then it takes more gas because of the increase of incoming air). That includes putting on headers...it gave me an average of one or two mpg I would guess. But things like gears kill that thought

That is the understatement of the last century. HOW you drive may have less of a bearing than WHERE you drive. Driving at higher altitude will affect mileage. Driving stoplight to stoplight will net a lot less mileage than expressway or cross-country driving. If you never get you car over 45 MPH in your average daily driving, you really don't have much of a chance of getting that 15-18 MPG average.
You really need to do fair comparisons. I've done as well as 23 MPG in my TA at highway speeds (not POSTED speeds, mind you). I don't even get 12 MPG in the city. The lower rear gear ratio (2.77) actually hurts me in town because of the terrible acceleration and extra torque necessary to get the tub moving.
