HELP!!! 88 TBI Fuel Pump Relay!!

Does this thing have a fuel pump relay? I jumped the oil pressure switch when the switch failed to keep the car running, but my fuel pump won't shut off. I've looked in Chilton's and the Haynes books, neither have the wiring diagram for the 88 TBI set up. The TPI set ups show the relay to be in the l/r of the engine compartment but it is not there. Do I even have one? I'm assuming that if I do, it is stuck shut. Someone HELP!

Thanks,

FordTek

your fuel pump relay should be located on the drivers side in the engine compartment on the firewall closet to the corner, it should be in with the ESC module, and Guide box Cluster on the right hand side of your Wiper motor the fuel pump relay should be in with that cluster

Update...

I just went back out and looked some more. The TPI set up appears to get power from a 20amp fuse all the time. So it makes sense that the pump never stops running. Where is the fuse though? I found one in the interior fuse panel that was labeled 'FP/Fan' but removing it did no good. Apparently there is a fuel pump relay (which I'm not exactly sure of its location) but by the looks of the diagrams for the TPI the relay has no control over the fuel pump. Maybe I'm just crazy, any ideas out there? I really am getting lost.

Thanks again,

FordTek

Thanks Faithbird,

I see two relays there and one solid state thingamabob. I've unplugged all three to no avail. Where is the fuel pump fuse?

Ok, I figured it out...I think...

The fuel pump relay and wiring are screwed found them today, in the daylight you can see so much more . The fuel pump is directly run by the oil pressure switch. The fuel pump relay is apparently only there to prime the pump when the key is turned on. Once the car is started the fuel pump relay is not used. Still haven't found the fuel pump fuse. The search continues.............

it must be top top secret, because I can't find the wiring schematic to the fuel pump relay switch. It must work perfect for everyone else because I can get no answers

I have a new oil pressure sending unit, but still no current going to the fuel pump relay, one wire coming out of it goes to the fuel pump in the tank. Can't find the wiring. Where does the power go into the relay from?

Common failure item. There's a wiring diagram in every Genuine GM service manual. Buy one for your vehicle.

Chilton's and Haynes are almost a waste of paper and ink.

Re: HELP!!! 89 TBI Fuel Pump Relay!!

power must go into fuel pump relay in order for it to come out. Does the power come from the oil pressure sending unit? Is the current switched? I have no power to the relay. New relay, new oil pressure sending unit

Re: HELP!!! 88 TBI Fuel Pump Relay!!

As stated, start a new thread and give some info such as, car, year engine and fuel system (ie. TPI). It'll help!
