I turned a 15.60@90mph in the old 180,000mile 305TBI camaro. I feel I could have done better, but I only got to run twice before they closed. Anyway, the gears made a definite difference. I'm not to concerned with the 305 times though, I just wanted to run it once again to get a comparison # for when I drop the 350 in. It's sad though cause I took my Grand Cherokee to the track on Friday and turned a 15.20@88mph with a 25mph head wind. Jeep is still faster than the camaro, darn it!

-180* thermostat
-Hypertech cool fan switch
-Melling roller cam(206:214, 410:426, I think)
-Lakewood LCA's
-All urethane bushings and endlinks too
-Jegster subframe connectors
-Edelbrock strut tower brace
-Edelbrock panhard rod
-KYB shocks and struts

no headers? daammn. :hail: good job. Do you have stock L03 Y pipe? TBI spacer? Ultimate TBI mods? adjustable fuel pressure regulator?

None of those modsTAS, and it has the stock Y-pipe! It just runs good I guess. If you ever read my post about 7000rpm L03, I wasn't kidding. I don't know how or why, but it pulls hard on the top end(cam was boxed wrong?). To answer NJ's question, my best time before the gears and posi was a 15.89@86mph with a 2.1 60 footer. HOWEVER, it was very cold that night and I had great traction on that run too. I have never been able to touch that time again until now. Usually the car ran low 16's to 16 flat before the gears, posi, and shift kit. But also, I was maually upshifting the car at that time at 5400-5800rpm. My best MPH ever before the gears and posi was this run: 16.02@88.72mph with a 2.604 60 footer. Once again, the car usually hung around 86-87mph, this was a mph I was never to see again until now. NJ, I only spun bad one time today and it was on a 15.78 run I made today. I didn't seem to spin on that 90mph run, except for a brief minute when I hit around 4500 rpm, and then I also barked second gear too at 6800rpm. The reason for the lag on the bottem (2.3 60 footer on that run), is the car's lack of lowend torque combined with the stock 1650 stall, and it doesn't launch very hard at all. the time it takes for it to get into the power band simulates lack of acceleration due to wheel spin. Don't get me wrong, if I stall it up, it will lay some scratch, but that really hurts my 60 footers. I have found that if I just punch it off idle, I have better times now that I have done the gears and posi. This wasn't true before when it had 2.73's though. I had to stall it up, and hope the one wheel didn't spin, cause it would burn hard then bog real bad when it stopped. My sixty footers were usually in the mid to high 2's before. Hope I gave enough info, let me know what you think.

That's awesome. What kind of springs are you running with that cam? any special retainers or anything for high lift cams?

A worn out timing chain will actually promote better top end performance at the sacrifice of low to mid range torque. It's strange but I think you must have just been a few degrees off when you installed the cam, this would explain the pulling hard up top and the slower ET. Have you tried shifting at 5000?

stock 180,000 mile valve springs! I had bought some Z28 springs to put in, but when we did the cam, we ran out of time so I had to do without. Jprevost, I did replace the timing chain and both gears with a Cloyes heavy duty when I did the cam in May of 2000. I didn't use a cam degree wheel though. When I first installed the cam, yes I tried shifting at 5000, then I worked my way up to 5500. However, that was back when I still had the stock RS transmission shift governor. I replaced it with one that doesn't shift until 6800 from 1st to 2nd, then 7000 from 2nd to 3rd. I was scared the first few times I let it loose, but then I quickly realized that it was still pulling solid all the way, so I have since just accepted it. I am no longer able to manually shift at a lower RPM anymore anyway since I replaced this part with the Z28 one. However, we think that Chevrolet parts must have sold me a V6 car's governor instead, because it shifts way to high for an L98. Either that or it was boxed wrong.

Can the ECU even handle 7000rpm? According to my FSM, the ECU in my car is good for ~6200rpm or so, IIRC. Not sure what it does after that, I assumed nothing.
