s10 stall converter <---njspeeder all help welcome
just was reading a post.. now i am curious... i know njspeeder has some knowledge about this...
i know s10 stalls can be had for cheap from the bone yard if you find one that will separate it from the tranny..i was wondering what a v6 stall converter will stall at behind the v8..
as njspeeder has already said the 4 cylinder will stall at 2400-3000 behind the v8 but i am also wondering about the v6 and what it will stall at with the v8...
also if you buy a intake without the egr how do you run it?? will your ride still run right or will it run like crap..
THANKS
Shawn

a v6 convertor is a bit tighter than the 4cyl, it will likely only stall in teh 2000-2200 range, 2400 at most. that is fine for a stock tbi, but if you do much of anything to the motor it will hold you back a bit.
to run egr you woudl have to tap into the exhaust and run a line through some sort of controlled check vavle. the car will run with out using egr, but it will throw a code. it will not much effect hte way the car runs though, just glow at you. the egr is only really useful for passing emissions tests, teh rest of the time it is just letting hot/unburnable exhaust gasses into you nice cool combustion charge.

My S-10 converter stalled at about 2100-2200 RPM with my old peanut cam. We'll have to see after my cam swap.
i talked to njspeeder on aim already about s10 converters and i am going to get the 4 banger torque converter... good mod especially since they can be had for like 20 dollars major pita to put in though...
so i can run a carb intake that wasnt made to run egr and my car will still run perfectly fine? my car already throws a code because of the speedo.... so i dont care it glows already. thats sweet.

the EGR cools the combustion chamber by introducing a non-reactive element. The stock computer is programmed accordingly - The timing curve and mixture are both 'set' assuming EGR fuctionallity. By not using EGR, and running with stock computer set up, you may notice ping, and may notice a LOSS of power due to incorrect timing curve and such. What will happen is w/o the EGR, the chamber will heat up, but the stock timing curve isnt set for that, so it will knock - comp 'hears' knock, and retards timing. But you must retard the timing more to stop knock, so you would run less total timing, and perhapse produce less power. That is how its been explained to me - If that makes any sense at all....

Hey what would be a better TQ for me? My car will have 3.73s, and ported heads, LT1 cam, free flowing intake and TBs, and 3" exhaust. If the 4 banger converter is better, what are the years/models I need to look out for.
88 and later 4-spd auto tranny. i have been told that the 4cyl, 4 wheel drive ones are even looser, but i have never been able to confirm this.
turbo bob... you out there buddy? do you know if there is a diff?

4 cyl. converters?!?!?!? Wow would would of thought. The only concern i would have would be durability. What do you all think? Any one try this behind some power? Also i thought they used diff input shafts but i'm pretty sure i'm wrong.
brodyscamaro it took me a while to find a bone yard that would separate them (transmission from the converter) but when i did they sold them like a crack head needing a fix.. <--- REAL CHEAP... still havent bought one though just finished school and graduation **** is expensive this sucks...
