I've heard that these are available for under $100 from several members. If so I'm looking to order one asap. Where can I find them at and are they still that cheap?.

heres my question about them...can i put one in my existing rear end? i know i wouldnt be able to go over a 3.08 gear but could i put a posi carrier in mine?

 

depends on your car. that posi uses 28 spline axles. 89 and below has 26 splines. 90-92 uses 28 thought. I heard that in 89 they switched from 26 to 28 so there is a possibility that you can have an 89 car and have 28 spline axles

I have an 88 RS so I would have to switch to 28 spline axles. How hard would this be? I have a 2.73 open and will be upgrading to 3.42's as well as the SLP unit. Will this pose a problem? Also how should go about getting 28 spline axles? The car will never see more then 300hp & torque.

something about hte carrier sizes are different also.

I think the 2.73's are a 2 series carrier, and the posi unit is for a 3 series carrier so you would need new gears.

but don't quote me on that I don't know for sure.

 

the posi unit is a 3 series carrier. you will need new gears, i just got my posi unit in today and im having 3.42 gears and the posi put in at the same time for 275 and its an overnight job. go all out, get the posi, gears, and of course the bearings and all and make sure to not do it yourself!!changing to a posi with 3.42 gears will mos definately be one of the most felt and important mods you do!!

As far as axles go all you need to do is pick up a set of the 28 spline axles at a auto salvage and put then in just like the originals came out. That is after you get your posi and gears installed.

just like t-rally, i got all my stuff at once. The posi from SLP Online (I might add that i love it) and the 3.42's from www.gearsareus.com. I also bought the installation kit that included the shims, lube, bolts and some other stuff i forget. Then i got a mechanic to install it for around 250 because i dont have the depth guages and all (one place quoted me $550 .. yes .. $550.00).

The bearings are on the SLP unit already BTW, so you don't have to buy those.

 

I seem to be completely ignorant when it comes to this rear end thing but I thought that if you had a two series carrier that you had to use 3.08 and lower gears (i.e. I couldn't just throw a 3 series 3.73 into my rear that came factory with 2.73). So how could I buy a SLP posi, with 3 series gears and put them in my factory rear?

That is what I hoped to do but my understanding was that the whole rear would have to be changed to a rear that came factory with a 3 series carrier. I hope I'm wrong so if someone could set me straight I'll go and order some gears

 

The SLP unit is the carrier. It's a series 3 carrier. Only 3 series gears can be used with it(and 28 spline axles). The rear end housing for 2 and 3 series carriers are the same, that doesn't matter.

If you've got 2.73 now, you'll need the slp unit, and set of 3 series gears.

 

so all i need to do is get a 28 spline rear end out of any 90-92 car? v6 have the 28 spline to right?

 

Actually, you only need the AXLES.
