EGR Removal?

What's the deal with the whole EGR system? I mean, is it okay to remove it and plug up the holes, or is it true that it actually serves in cooling processes? If it can be removed, what are the advantages/disadvantages? Is it worth it?

It does serve a cooling purpose but it does it by letting exhaust gas back into the intake stream. Needless to say this doesn't burn well and therefore can't really help power. I left mine on there and just capped the Vac. holes. You are not going to pick up a full second in e.t.'s but hey it is just the principle of the thing
