whants to stall when cold..
whants to stall when cold..
I don't know why but if I start my truck and let it run for 3-5 mins and put it in drive it sometimes almost stalls or will stall.. once I drive it for a few mins and it warms up it's fine..
not really a big deal but I'm just wondering if it's a problem? or is it with the min air adjust on the tb?
I think I played around with that in the past.. I'm currently running 5 deg advance base timing and 94 octaine fuel with the custome edelbrock chip that is programmed for my 6085 heads, 3704 intake and 3702 cam..

ok it's a little cooler out today.. I started it up and let it run for about 10 mins.. I gave it a couple shots (3000-3500rpm) and I could see the white smoke (rich).. I could really smell the fuel..
I took it down the road for a good run and came back.. once it was warmed up you can put it back in gear and the idle stays the same and doesn't hesitate at all..
is this to be expected with an engine done up this way?
thanks..

one other thing... I don't think it was as bad when I was running 92 octaine fuel with 0 degrees base.. (this was juring break in).. after wards edelbrock said to run 8 degrees advance base... I was getting a small amount of pre ingition at 8 and even with the 94 ocatain.. at 5 it seems a lot better.. would the advance timing make it run richer? also doesn't seem to be throwing any codes lately.. it was giving a code 45(rich) when I was running 0 degrees base and 92 octain.. only if I started it and let it idle for more than 5 mins.. then it would go away..
now it doesn't seem to be doing that anymore..
should I hook the laptop up with the winaldl and see what's going on?? what should I look for??
thanks

A place to start would be to start checking out the TBI. This sounds like it may stem from something as simple as your IAC. Pull it out and clean it up or if that doesn't help it may need to be replaced. My 92 was doing something similar as to what yours sounds to be doing. I have Edelbrock headers and and intake as well as some other small stuff and my truck when cold would start and then stall and have to be restarted again and ran rich at idle. Ended up I checked the O2 out and it kept kicking the truck in and out of closed loop when warm so I stuck in a GM one and my problem has disappeared. Something to think about maybe, and if you have access to scan it, even with no codes the scanner can sometimes pick up a problem as long as you can read and understand the data stream(like mine). BTW running more base timing does not richen the mixture so I think you are fine(i run 6 degrees on my 350). Very nice setup on the engine in your truck, I would have done something similar but with a strong running 230000Km 350 I didn't want to mess with it much so I stayed with bolt ons, but none the less very nice.

May not hurt to try it, or the simpler thing is just to pull the ECM fuse in the panel and leavei ti for a minute or 2, then on restart the computer will remap and adjust to the engines demands, in theory anyhow as long as all sensors are working properly.

Might want to try and hook up winaldl and see what your IAC is doing. If the IAC is gumed up or there is ice on the TB (yes this can happen) then the car can stall sometimes. The ice doesn't happen on dry days but if high humidity and low air temp you can build ice around the TB until it warms up.
When the problem happens, pop off the air cleaner and take a look at the IAC, have a friend start the car and see if the IAC moves in and out like it should. Do me a favor and protect your face just incase of a backfire (highly unlikely but can happen).

thanks .. I'll have to remember that.. yesterday I disconnected the batt and I also turned the min /air adjust a half turn before I reconnected the batt.. I took it out for a spin and let it sit for about 4 hours..
