cam question
cam question
ok, i finally got my cam and its sittin in the bedroom just waiting on me to get everything rounded up and get to it...
so, when all is said and done, what kind of difference am I going to see, like a mojor difference, or a little.
my neighbor has a new GT and I'd love to at least keep up with him.... will this cam allow me to do this with basically an otherwise stock car??? I guess I'm asking If I'll be able to outrun a Stock Mustang GT stick, with my L03 w/LT1 cam and 700r4 I also have a catback and gutted cat, other than that its stock...
whatcha think???
thanks

If it's the 260 hp version of the GT made from 99 to now, the answer is no. Those cars are mid to high 14 second cars bone stock, you'd probably be in the low 16's to high 15's. Just a guess from what I know about the cars.

From what others have done it seems that just the Lt1 cam on a stock motor will be worth about 20hp, more if you've got exhaust, intake work done and TUNED so as not to run lean

To get the Lo3 to run with the new cars you need to do all the bolt ons and have no problems with traction. The problem with doing heads on the Lo3 is usually milage. The cost of doing a head swap on an Lo3 can be expensive, take a lot of time, and in the end the block might not last not to mention a 350 long block like the goodwrench motor will post likely cost you LESS than doing the head swap on a 305
.
Some people are partial to 305's and I can respect that so long as there are just reasons other than "the car came with it." Because that excuse gets old real quick cause I know a lot of 350 L98 thirdgens....anyways, to run with that GT you'll need some power adder, a lot of other bolt ons, and/or an engine swap.
NJSpeeder was running low 14's with just exhaust, intake, and edelbrock performer heads with stock cam.
It's all about how fast do you want to spend?
My opinion is to do the bolt ons like exhaust, Lt1 cam, intake and eprom stuff and THEN think about doing heads or swapping in a larger motor when funds allow.

i gave up the idea of trying to make the 305 fast for now im focusing on paintball since my 3 man team just took 3rd at the biggest ever 3 man event im gonna save and try to build a vortec 350 from a goodwrench l98 block or whatever
ah paintball, go to smackz.com for a good online store, contact the man who runs it Shawn and he can hook ya up pretty good, tell him Cody sent you...
and about the 305, well, I'm just doing what I can right now with what I have, I just got layed off last night so anything too expensive will have to wait, I was just wondering If I'll be able to keep up... oh well, at least I'll outrun the six cylinders now... hahaha
thanks
