Heating up on the hiway...

My engine seems to get warm on the hiway. I'm talkin it heats up to 190*F...at idle it will be ~180*F.

Not terrible...but summer is coming and who knows if it'll stop climbing.

I have a new: water pump (hi-flow), radiator (3 core copper), thermostat (180*), hoses, fan clutch, shroud, goose neck. I JUST replaced the thermostat and goose neck. Turns out that the 4.3 V6 goose neck has an opening about the size of a quarter...barf. So I replaced it with a Mr.Gasket goose neck that has a MUCH larger opening.

The engine runs ~2000 rpm usual hiway cruise. At rush hour its about ~2200-2300 rpm.

Is this normal? I'm probably over-reacting but my IROC runs at 220* so I really don't have anything else to compare it to.

Do they come from the factory with air dams??
Check your lower radiator hose, to make sure it's not collapsing.

The lower hose is a flex hose...it's real rigid and has a "spring" inside of it.

I may be too long tho...finding a radiator hose for a '92 Astro with a 350 in it is kinda difficult so I've been guessing

I think I'll try a hose 2-3" shorter...

Are you leaning out at higher RPM?

According to my scanner I'm always rich on the hiway.

190 down the highway is no problem at all. Your fan clutch will probably kick in at about 220 and cool it down if needed. With a 180 thermostat, it is probably just getting fully open around 185 or so. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
