Alternator And Belt

How do i loosen to belt on an 88 camaro sport coupe. it is just 1 single belt throughout the thing. Im not sure how to loosen and tighten back up the belt. You can'd do it through the alternator cause that just bolts on normally unlike most other cars that have the sliding bolt hole so you can tight and loosen the alternator to adjust the belt.

Oops, just read you done have the sliding bracket.

My alternator is on a bracket that the bolt you loosen will slide back and forth, sliding it out will tighten the belt, I just use a long screwdriver to get some force against the alt to get it totally tight.

On my car there is a wheel on the oposite side of the alternator that you put a ratchet in and just pull it back. With it pulled back you can undo the belt. The whole thing is spring loaded so it keeps the belt on there nice and tight. I like it, I can remove the belt without loosening any bolts.

That's right. You need a 1/2" drive ratchet to pull the tensioner back. The belt will come off easily this way.
