Make me rattle my memory banks huh? The HP is going to be around 220ish SAE gross, so thats less in today's ratings, maybe around 180-190. Could very well be more though, I seriously doubt the engine is stock anymore. It should run low-mid 15's in stock trim, maybe a little better on good tires and a nice day. It really was only the HO's and larger engine cars that were breaking into the 14's. Easy to improve on that though, not much to the engine and the cars are relatively light.
Check for rust, very important. Those rust on the front part of the door at the bottom, about 1 1/2" from each edge. Just give it a light push with your finger. Tap on it, if it doesnt feel like a sheet of steel but rather a really solid feel like a concrete wall, its probably full of bondo. They also rust on the rear 1/4's behind the tire, about the same distance as the front doors. You can see the back side fairly well from the trunk and wheel well to check for rust and bondo there as well. The last most common place aside of the rear window corners and floors is under the dash where the vents are. Get a glass of water and pour it into the vents behind the hood. If water starts dripping in, you have a problem. 67's and 68's also have a tendency to crack the shock towers in the front, just look at them carefully under the hood and you should be able to spot any damage there.
If you want exact HP and TQ numbers (IMHO it really doesnt matter) I can get them when I get home.

TBI,
Wow. You're really asking us "old farts" to filter through all the stale dendrites...
I had a '68 coupe, vinyl topand all. 289, C4, and dual exhaust. It was good for 210HP (BHP) according to the manuals. IIRC, there was no 302 in a Mustang in '68 - just the regular 289 and a 289HP, and the 240-inch inline six, of course. I might be wrong on the 302 in '68, but I seem to remember it that way. '69 had the 302 and 351, I think.
That doesn't matter a lot, but watch the front spring towers for rust and corrosion -it was a real weak point. Of course the trunk floor and main floor pan are not a lot better, but the repairs there are easier.

Does it have a 2bbl or 4bbl on it. I know my friend's 65 Mustang was stock with a 2bbl but it was on a 289 engine.
One good thing about those cars, is if it's like his with all options delete even power steering the car only weighs around 2500 lbs.

Vader, the 302 was available in 68. I cant remember if they came out mid-year in 67 or 68, but it was one of the two. At least I was close on the HP...
Rust is a problem from the point you need to fix it. You could literally buy every piece of sheetmetal to build a 64.5-66 from the ground up, so availability isnt a problem, replacement of the pieces is. 67-68 I havent looked into much but I'm sure most of those cars is available too. The 67-68 shock towers are available, and theres also a reinforcement kit available. Not having to do all that is always the best way however.
