Limited Slip/Open/Posi
How do you identify what you have withOUT opening it up?
I don't have posi...I've jacked it up and checked....
However I don't think I have a "one wheel wonder" either....but how do I verify what exactly I have?
I'm not new, just a slow learner!

posi/positraction is a limited slip differential. if you don't have a limited slip you have an open diff. the only other way is a locker which i'm sure you don't have.

if the rear axel has never been open up there should be a meatel tag with limeted slip diff fluid on it if it's a posi (linited slip- same thing) also you can jack up one side put the tranny in nutral and try to turn the back tire if it turns - it's a open if it's hard (50 ft' lbs allot more torqu than I can put on a tire) it's posi, this is the proper GM approved way of checking if your posi works or is worn out also, if you are he-man I would put blocks in front of the front wheels, if the posi works it should take approx 50 ft lbs to berak it loose and 40 ft lbs to keep it going, which is more than you can turn the wheel by hand (unless you have allot of spair time on your hands
