Is a high torque starter really needed for a 305? What kind of problems are you having with the stock one? Ive started some high compression engines with just a stock high torque starter.Or,if you just want one,go for it!

I need one that handles the heat better. But I think Im just going to go with a Remote Solenoid instead.

I have heard alot of people do that(remote starter) but I never thought it was that bad.I had a 454 Suburban I used to tow with,it ate up starters.I bought a heat shield from JEGS,problem solved! So either way would be ok.

NOT TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a thermal wrap and a Metal heat shield on it and i still have problems...............However it may be due to the fact that this starter had the problem before the shields were put on..................So it may be at a lower level if you know what I mean.
