Best tight ratio Steering gear box?
I own an '89 IROC. ( I love to say that, anyone feel like that).
I am looking for a little bit tighter steering as mine tends to steer like a school bus full of bricks. Anyone know the best place to get a tighter ratio steering gear box? I know they exist and I am pretty sure I can locate one. But being a newbie, I thought I would check with ya'll and see what you would recommend. Appreciate any input I can get on this.
Thanks,
Andy

The IROC's came with a 12.5:1 ratio box. I don't know of any tighter than that. If your car feels like a schoolbus, then it sound like you have some worn front end parts. Try the "grab it and shake it" test underneath the car and figure out which pieces of the steering system are worn out. You can also try adjusting the box, but only after you confirm that the rest of the steering components are OK.
AGR makes a nice 12.5:1 ratio box--2.5 turns lock to lock. Also, be sure to check out the rest of your suspension--bushings, ball joints, tie rods, idler arm...If all this is worn out replace it before you invest in the new box.
