I wasn't going to jump in here, mostly 'cause I know exactly di(k about rebuilding engines. My expierence with engines is limited to replacing bolt-ons (alternator, power steering pump, starter, etc) and installing headers. However, I am learning. SLOWLY, but I am learning. "more power with a 305".... Before my Camaro, the largest engine I had in a car was a 3.8 V6 in my 84 Mercury Marquis. Which, BTW, it the WORST engine ever concieved by Ford. Everything else that I have owned has been a 4-banger. I have even owned a 91 Ford Escort, and as anyone who has driven one will know, they are WAYYYY underpowered. But I digress. I am considering the pros and cons of rebuilding my stock 305 versus building a 350. Personally, I would like a 350. I will probably end up building a 350 just so I can build up an engine without having to take my Camaro off the road while I am working on the engine. On the other hand, i only drive my Camaro once a week, due to the interior reeking of exhaust and cigarettes, so taking it off the road will not be that much of a loss for the time it will take to rebuild the stock 305. And then there is the issue of drivetrain upgrades to handle the increased power, and the fact that I would like to switch the car from an automatic to a manual tranny. Hmmnn..I think I have wandered a bit from the point I am trying to make...(it is late).. my point is that, for me, the 305 makes plenty of power considering what I have to compare it to regarding my former cars. I am not looking to conquer all at the dragstrip, just eat some rice every once in awhile. I want to have some power there if I need/want it. I want to be able to push the pedal to the floor at 60 mph and have the car jump forward. All of which I think that the 305 can do, especially if it has been built up a little. As far as the cost is concerned, you never get back what you pay for when you buy a car, let alone mod it. Wether you build a modded 305 or a modded 350, you are still losing money as far as the resale value of the car. I say, go with what you want to do, wether it be a 305, 350, or some monster 500+ with a blower.

I sincerely believe that TBI is an inherently flawed form of fuel injection and hold up as my proof that it doesn't make the power. As an example, it's no secret that given proper tuning, a holley will make more power than an edelbrock carb. It is my contention that TBI just doesn't get it done for whatever reason in WOT high HP applications since such wild inconsistency and tuning issues happen by the time you're touching 300hp. So i can't help but open my big mouth when i see people advocating it as some great thing. If you want to work with it because thats what you have, thats noble. But don't be so against the idea that not everyone feels like banging their head on a wall for fun. It's TBI guys that take it to the next level by praising what they are doing with it, of course i am going to call them out because they are decieving the readers by not sharing results. And all i and the other *******s in this thread are doing is asking for results. And you guys just get meaner. But you still don;t give us results. It's actually funny as hell.

If you actually re-read this post and follow how it degraded, and look at some others you'll see the pattern.

So hey do what you want, but it's not my fault that i can make the stronger argument. And except the boards i moderate we're all free to discuss things. Just don't show up to a gunfight with a knife...
Well you dont really "hold" proof, what you hold is a lack of 1/4 TBI times/dyno #'s. I do too. There's no denying that, and I think that you need to admit before degrading the entire TBI system that we need times to prove that TBI is garbage( JP's 13.8 you can forget about because his entire car was broken it seems).

See your contention that TBI doesnt make power past 300hp because of wild inconsistency and tuning issues "for whatever reason" isnt a viable statement because we have discussed before that we dont even have any back to back TBI 1/4 times! who on the TBI board even has over 300hp? I can only think of maybe 2-3 people.

I dont know who was praising it on this post, but all I do is stand up for TBI and not let people bash it. I'm not gonna refer it to other thirdgenners as the best induction system to swap on, I'm just gonna stand up for it.

You are bringing a stronger arguement into here because you have times for these cars, there's no denying it. And discussing things is a great idea because then people can see all three sides and then make their decision from that.

Maybe I will go carb so threads like this stop happening and everyone will like me.
Nah, I like the TBI and I dont really care if someone doesn't like me because my skin color is black or white (metaphorically speaking)

I love this subject!

I know I stuck with my 305 and I love it when people say, hey, whatcha got in there?

And then their next response is ...and then when they find out that I'm still running with my stock exhaust except for a muffler........they really think I'm F.O.S. I am, but not about that.

Also, if I had 50 grand to stick in a car I'd probably have something different.
