Does anyone know if the an 87 LG4 has a hydraulic roller cam or just a hydraulic cam. Thanks.

It's supposed to be a roller, but I wouldn't bet on it... my late brother's 87 MC SS L69 was a flat....

The smart thing would be to look before you buy anything

The 87 f-bodies all got roller cams. The Monte's L69 was an older, non-updated motor, so it kept the hydraulic cam, although there's a good chance that it had the bosses in the lifter valley for the keeper. The trucks had the newer block with the bosses, but didn't get roller cams until 96 I believe.

If it's got centerbolt valve covers it SHOULD be a roller cam motor, but that's definitely no guarantee. I've ripped into enough of them to know that GM was not shy about dropping flat-tappet cams/lifters into 87-up blocks. Particularly in low output applications- base engines/truck engines.

If it's got perimeter bolt heads it is definitely a flat tappet cam.
