my car won't start!!!!

I have a '89 IROC 350, automatic. I have had every starting problem possible: no cold start, no hot start, it will start and then it will hold an idle, then I turn it off it won't start again. The problem is between the key and the starter. When I turn my key I get no drain off the battery and the solenoids don't click, but i do get response in my temp guage and so forth. It used to not start, then I would simply wait awhile and it would start later. It has no pattern. any help would be greatly appreciated. oh, i do know that it is not the shifter or nuetral safety switch, i have manually flipped the gear indicater on the trans case to park.....thanks.

I had the same problem a Week ago!!!! Remove your ground bolt from the engine block....clean it with a wire brush and clean that area of the block. Hook it back up and you should be good to go!

Not Vats then..... Could be spark related or maybe your flywheel teeth and starter teeth are to worn down to make a connection. I really dont know for sure... Have you tried jumping it? It may be a drained battery? Make sure to check your connections also!

Unfortunately, the neutral safety switch may not be located in the transmission. That was an old Chrysler TorqueFlite trick, but GM typically uses an external safety switch. Try looking at the shifter base in the console for the safety switch.
