WTF? How do i get the park lock cable off?
I tried looking in a Chiltons manual and it didn't help at all. This is pretty annoying, cause its hard to get to and a pain to see. I tried inserting a screw driver or something similar in the only slot I found, which is right next to where the cable goes in. I had the keys in the ignition and the keys were in the lock position, like the manual said, but nothing happens. Does anyone know how to disconnect this thing?

Yeah, its the one in the steering column. And yes I do have both VATS and SIR. Judging by your question, I guess that changes things, just don't know how. I guess I should probably disarm the air bag before messing around under the dash, but I don't see the connection with VATS.

I gave up and just stuffed the cable up under my dash.
I asked because I wanted to know which one of these to post:

Rahter than scan around the browser page, I'd suggest a right click and copy/paste. I'll try to find the page that has the SIR instructions. The VATS is not any more difficult than carefully fishing the wiring harness out of the column, unplugging the connector, and removing the lock cylinder. If you forget to unplug it, you'll be buying a new cylinder and key ($$$).

Thanks Vader, that diagram is awesome. The reason I am disconnecting the park lock cable is because I am switching from auto to manual. I just needed to disconnect the cable, I don't think its necessary to remove the whole assembly that its connected to. I am pretty frustrated with that piece of **** right now, and I am leaning on just leaving it connected on that end. The ignition will still turn to start the car, its just gonna hang there. I don't think that would be a problem would it? Does anyone know how to disconnect the cable from the ignition switch assembly in that diagram (number 80)?
