Gas tank filler neck

well, I am leaking gas outta my car tanks filler neck. I looked at it, and it seems like the little metal door that automatically closes when you remove the gas nozzle is bent up. Not a lot, just a very small amount - enough fer gas to leak out with 3/4 or more, hitting corners. How fixable does this sound - pease tell kme i dont need to drop the tank!!

As far as I've seen, that little door is to prevent large items from falling in the tank, and, to only allow an unleaded gas nozzle inside. (Leaded nozzles are wider.) If you're getting gas leaking onto your car on a tight turn, you might want to replace your gas cap, the seal is probably bad. OR, the boneheads at the gas station aren't tightening your cap enough.

(In NJ, we have those full service stations; no self-serve. I always remove my own cap and put the cap back on myself- seems the morons that pump my gas are too weak to tighten the cap until it clicks.)

heh, we have the opposite problem in ohio. The idiots at the gas station always rip the fuel door off my cars, one even striped the gas cap threads.....i didnt think that was possible.

Thats why i dont use full service anymore, and if i do i always tell them "ok, you think you can handle opening the door gently?". They give me dirty looks, but they dont break anything anymore.
