New Cam, how much starter grinding is ok?

Hello.

A quick question, I have a new cam in my engine (327) and I read that if the engine does not start fast there is a risk of damaging the cam lobes. So, how much is too much grinding on the starter before I risk damage?

The cam is a flat tappet hydraulic.

The car is a 86 camaro, 327 w. tpi and 461 heads and comp cam.

Thanx...
