Is it safe to connect the breather to the one way header valve?

I've seen racecars with I guess they call it an evacuation system.. i noted that it was just a check valve ......

soo today I grabbed the L shaped tube off my monte and put it on the valve cover.. then i connected it to the once way valve on my tes.. headers... i can feel it sucking if i put my finger over it..sucking from the headers that is....

i dont have air but i just put caps over the header connection...so it was easy to put the valve back on..

it really seems to run a lot better.. .............

it's safe right??

It should work fine. Just make sure you use a dodge style breather in the valve cover so that it helps control the oil. Connect the 2 with some 5/8" or 3/4" heater hose. (whatever fits best)

The racers usually have them down at the end of the headers since it's easy to install there. The evac system uses the same one way valve.

If you have to go through emission testing you may have problems with too high of emissions.

Im assuming you mean the pcv valve by L shaped tube? If so, then no, I wouldnt recommend doing that. A race exhaust has no mufflers, so it will draw quite a vacuum thru the headers. In a streetcar with mufflers, there is to much backpressure in the exhaust for an evac system to work right. When the mufflers start to build pressure, the check valve wil close, and seal the engine. Ive seen people try it with a pan evac kit, and they all smoked, and 1 even blew the pan and valvecover gaskets out from the pressure.

Actually if you want a good evac system (not using the PCV valve), connect your valve cover breathers to the smog pump. Make sure the smog pump isn't pushing the vapour back into the exhaust.
