No Oil Pressure???
Hey Guys,
Just pulled my car out of storage last night after it had been sitting for 3+ years. I checked for mice nests and etc. and it all looked pretty good.
My battery was dead as a door nail so I had to jump it. The beast fired right up...I was impressed.
Anyway after it started I noticed that the oil pressure gauge was at 0 (or just above the red line I guess) so I tapped on it a few times. When that didn't work I shut the car off. We tried locating the wire for it and I'm not sure if we got the right one or not but we tried cleaning anyway.
When I started the car back up I was watching the gauge this time and it went all the way to the max when it was turning over (I believe this is normal if I can remember right) and then after it started it slowely went back down to zero.
I had checked the oil level just after I took it out and it was full.
Any ideas what this could be? Or any idea what I can try? Since yesterday was a holiday no garages were open, and today I'm sitting at work pondering what it could have been.
Well, hope everybody had a nice long weekend. Thanks for the help in advance.

The first thing i would check is the oil sending unit. I've had 2 experiences with them going bad.
we swapped a motor out of a ranger that had been sitting for about 2 years into a bronco II.. oil psi was messed up.
new oil sending unit... works perfect
My car one day (87 TA) had the oil psi just dead on 0... there wasnt any internal knocking.
new oil sending unit... works perfect!
If you really had no oil psi you would hear a knock inside the motor (crank and what not) as if some one was hitting the bottom of the block with a hammer....
the cars has been sitting for 3 years. i would be sure and changes all the fluids. and get yourself a new 12 dollar oil sending unit!!!!

Thank you for the info...I will give that a shot.
Yesterday I was planning to get the car all prepped, but I had to start it so I could get it to the garage which was about 1/4 mile away.
Thanks again.
