i am having a problem with my car ....


its been sitting in my garage for about a year... and now that i finished it... it will crank.. but it acts like it wants to turn over but wont..


well now it wont crank....... i have a full tank of gas in it but the gas is almost a year old...

someone suggested that it was the alternator.. but i have power..

somone said it could be the starter... could this be it ?




i am not a gear head i am learning as i go ...

What have you done to the car? What sounds does it make when you try to start it? Have you checked that the car is getting fuel, spark, and the timing is set properly?

If it was cranking before, but it won't now, you may have the timing incorrect, or insufficient spark/fuel. Your battery may be dead, so you need to recharge it so that the start has sufficient power, if this is the case. The alternator has absolutely nothing to do with the starting of your car, rule it out for now. It could be the starter, or it could be the solenoid. Give us a bit more info to work with.

 

ok the spark plugs.... which are brandnew, but close to a year old
have carbon compostites,... theres a full tank of gas in the tank.. but its about 10 months old.. my friend knocked on the tank to see if there was fuel... sounded like it was empty, but the gauge said i had a full tank and i remember i filled it up 10 months ago....did it all evaporate over time ?


ok it will crank,but will not turn over.. it sounds as though it wants to...but it wont...

*note* the chitons book said that my spark plugs had carbon composites because the fuel was too rich... or something to that nature.. can fuel go bad ?
