Cooler Engine Please

I was told how to do this a long time ago but I've forgotten. How can I swap my fan switch for one that kicks in earlier? I'm tired of my car getting up above 220* before the fan comes on. I've heard I can use one from a GN, any other ideas?

Yes, GN, JET, Hypertech. Take your pick. Pull out your old one, thread in the new one, splice on a new connector (will need one 95% of the time), and you're done.

Just swapped in a 355 that was running 190-210 degrees with factory single fan and 160 thermostat (granted the engine is new) I bought a Hayden adjustable thermostat that threads into the head or intake, installed a IROC dual fan set-up, found out I was missing the rubber spoiler under the front so I installed that-walla runs 160 in stoplight traffic and while cruising-the nice thing about the adjustable thermostat (should be for $55) was that it had a second wire for connecting the second fan.

There is a much simpler way, the way I did it, Take the two wires running from the fan and cut them.

Run the negative to a ground on the side of the car, run the postive to a toggle switch inside your car and then the other lead from the toggle to the fan fuse in the fuse box. Then all you have to do is flip the damn thing on when ever you want.

This is what I had setup in my old RS and will have setup in the IROC-Z very shortly.

hey pennyless, you live in hampton roads, what part? i have an RS and you seem to know alot about camaros and what to do with them. That fan switch sounds like a good idea. Right now mine doesn't even come on. Maybe we can meet up somewhere and you could show me how to do it? Im' electrical dumb. But willing to learn...

I'm with you Hung, no switch-no brainer! Otherwise you have to watch the gauge or "remember" to switch it on. Buddies street/strip car is that way and there's been a few times she's climbed to 210 before "oh ****, I forgot to turn the fan on" Cheaper YES, but like anything else cheaper is'nt always better.

Wow, thanks for all the info. I used a manual switch for a long time when the fan stopped coming on all together, but I got tired of always burning myself on the wires and knocking the switch off so I fixed the fan temp switch. I'll go check out hypertech while I'm online, sounds like what I'm looking for.
