Time for a new car...

Well as you guys/girls know, what happened with my car ( https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=107693 ), leaves me with one thing left to do, find another car. I've said my goodbye leaning on the engine with the hood open, crying, yeah I admit it. I'll miss her. I love that car.

Now considering my situation. I don't have much money. I'm looking for something in the $3,000 range. This will be my car for the next two years or so. I will be going to college next year, except I wont be living there, I'll be commuting but its only 20 minute ride or so. So I don't really need a commuter car (aka Cavalier Z24, Lumina Z34), if its only 20 minutes away, plus you never go to college everyday. I feel if I buy a commuter car, I'll be limiting myself.

So I figure, why buy a commuter car. My sister told me that "but you'll also be using it to go out". And I was like "exactly, I'd rather be in a hot car". She agreed.

So I'm gonna be looking into buying thirdgen Camaro or Firebird. I'm not gonna be so specific about what I want. I just want a hot car, for transportation. But it has to be atleast a V8.

Whatcha guys think? Any cars ya know around ya I could buy? Think I should buy a commuter car or hot car? Pray for me everyone that I find a great car... Thanks Peace

i dont know how people could buy a 3rdgen for a a daily driver. I wouldnt care baout mine then. It would be like a normal car. I drive my 3rdgen twice a week and I look forward to it everytime. I would go with a sporty yet economical car for college. The Lumina Z34's are nice along with maybe a Grand Prix GT. Or a Buick GS Yes they are only mid 16 cars but they are sporty nice and now they are easy to find in teh 3000 range.

i drive a 89 camaro rs with a 305 tbi and 5 speed as a daily driver. I'm pretty happy with it, its a simple durable design (except the unibody) and it gots a little punch to it.

I picked it up for only $2200. The guy just had it quality repainted, and he believed that the engine was burning oil so he just needed to get rid of it (you know how some people are).

But then when i changed the oil i realized that he didnt put the oil filter on properly and it was leaking there, so i just put a new one on and tightened it right and havnt had a problem with the oil since.

He also thought the engine needed rebuilt because "it runs like crap" so a new air cleaner and a new pcv valve later it runs like it was new...

All in all i'd really recommend a 3rd gen as a daily driver. You ever try to buy parts for a cavalier? its not a pretty experience....3rd gen parts are available everywhere and pretty darn cheap. The j-bodies are also insanely hard to work on, i've completly stripped two of them....i was constantly and consistantly disgusted by their design.

I can imagine you would pick one up for about $3....but you may not be as lucky as i was. I guess my best advice would be try to find one that has a simple problem with it, but the owner is too much of a idiot to fix it....they usually sell it cheap in that scenerio...

I say go with the thirdgen. You never know when some pesky little kid is gonna rev at you in his civic, and i don't know about you, but i'd rather have a V8 on the other end of my pedal. As for knowing of any cars, there is an 86 IROC-Z with a 350 tpi, rebuilt tranny, four wheel discs, stock 348 posi, and nice paint/interior for $2500 around by me. I don't about if there's anything like that by you, but if i had the money i'd get one. This one was black with red interior. I'm not a big fan of the red interior though. Just my opinion though.

If you want cheap, do what I (technically my parents) did. I graduated this year just like you. I got my camaro when i just turned 16. My parents paid $1250 for it. It had a rebuilt 2.8MPFI V6(i know, stop laughing) with 15,000 miles on it. The body wasn't in the best shape, but decent. Over a year I fixed the body up all by myself, got a Maaco $200 paintjob and looks great. I've designed my own ramair, used premium stuff on my engine (plugs, oil, etc), and worked on my exhaust, and it runs good. It's not FAST, but it gets great mileage, its still a camaro, so i get all the looks from the hot girls, and it runs for cheap. I could sell it for 2000 - 2500 after the work i've put into it (which i will do this summer and get a TTA hopefully). Anyone who doesnt like it, please dont tell me to put a V8 in cuz it works for me, and maybe this guy
