I have a 5" cowl, open element with a sealed air tray. No water problems.

I've got no sealing and yet no water problems except a little rust on the open air element. When it rains, my engine actually feels a little happier (probably colder air and all that)..

Have a 4" cowl on my lowrider, water goes in. I found a filter wrap this is tight nylon based material, I use them on jet skis. Thay are highly water resistant but not waterproof. I believe you can get them through K&N. Pages 170-173 in 2001 catalog. These things have fended off a foot of water inside my Kawi 440.
