Casting #?

The # on the back of the block looks like 14010201. Does this seem like a valid #? I know the block is not original , but I'd just like to know if it is a 305 or 350 and what year....Thanks.:hail:

Thanks for the info...I'm just wondering how they got the stock(1989) tbi to fit on it. Isn't the bolt pattern different on the intake?

The cylinder heads on the short block are probably not the originals. You could run the casting # on them to see thier origin.

Get the suffix numbers off the block to find out what it originally came out of. There's a bunch of numbers "stamped" into a pad on the block in front of the passenger side head. The numbers are usually full of dirt, oil or paint and are hard to read but that tells you more about the engine than just a casting number.

If the block has ever been decked then the numbers will have been machined off in the process.
