Alright friends, my girldfriend has a 1992 305 TBI bird thats in mint condition, however every once in awhile the when attempting to the start the car, cold or hot, the start just clicks. Upon further education she informs me that when she jiggles the tranny shifter, (automatic) and i mean on the car, the thing will then fire. THe car runs fine no problems at all, just this starting problem. PS she said she had the starter looked at and its fine, i dont trust this mechanic though whats going with this thing. The next time that occurs, put the trans selector in NEUTRAL and try to start. I'm guessing the neutral safety switch is failing or out of adjustment.

 

At least that 1 clicks, I don't even get that.

 

I have been having this problem for several months now. One other member (dacauma) has also had the same problem. I have not tried to gear shift jiggle, but "dacauma" said he found it was the wire leading to the starter. He changed his and said it solved the problem. I have not done mine yet but I will very shortly.
