New mechanical fuel pump not working...

I just got done with a cam install and installed a new mechanical fuel pump. I set the fuel rod on the lobe as it was before and put the plate back on as it was before and all that but it doesn't seem to be pumping. Is there anything in particular that I should realize I forgot about the installation? From what I could tell you just take the rod out, put it in to rest on the cam lobe and the side of the plate then pop in the fuel pump and bolt it on (with much effort) Am I right? Am I incorrect? I would GREATLY appreciate some help with this as I want to get the cam broken in before the assembly lube runs off or something along those lines :-/

This may seem obvious, but you may want to double check your fuel lines. Make sure the return line isn't hooked up to the feed line (or vice versa) and that there are no kinks in the line anywhere.... It might just be a restriction(kink) somewhere not letting fuel move.

Yea I thought of that too yesterday, I had them clamped I thought MAAAAYBE it might be collapsed internally so I replaced the line. Still no gas... I should have pressure in the tank and everything, had a full tank etc etc. I think my pump is just dead. What do you expect for $10...

Are you completely sure the pump lever is on the end of the push rod and not beside it?

You probably have the hoses hooked up backwards. It's easy to do that. I did it on mine. Switch them and see what happens.

I checked again and it's both correct unless they have a larger return line than sending line on the pump for some reason, although knowing these bargain pumps it's always a possibility...
I think I might just say forget the whole thing and buy a quality pump like a holley and get a malory 3 port regulator...
This stupid fuel pump MUST be dead even after priming the engine no luck... Garbage Advance Auto parts...

I bought a cheap mech pump. Worked for all of one day. Ended up buying a new Delco pump.

Loosen fuel pump bolts and push down on pump. You should feel resistance of lever and return spring in pump against fuel
pump rod. If there is little or no resistance the pump arm may
be beside rod instead of on the end of it. If pump feels "normal",
pushing up and down on the loosened fuel pump should start
to pump fuel after about twenty strokes.
