problems!!!
hey guys i need ur help. yesturday and today as i was driving my 82 to skool and back. when i would get on the throttle the car would bog, and spit, and backfire. and friend of mine said that is could be my air filter being to large becuz have a 14x4 and he said there might be too much air and the fuel is evaporating before it gets to the cylender. and it did it again today this morniing around 7:30 and my under hood temps have to be really hot becuz when i stop and let the car cool down. i can start it up and then go again. but once it gets hot under there soon it starts to have problems. so i put my stock air filter like the regular 14x3 paper one on and i still have the problem. so if anyone can think of anything that is wrong or could be causing this help me. also i think it could be my plugs. maybe i need new ones. i dunno please someone help. thanx guys.

The air filter should not be an issue. It is desireable to have the fuel charge fully vaporize before entering trhe chambers. Your description could indicate a lean condition, creating overheating and backfire.
Inspect or replace the spark plugs. When you remove them, examine their condition and color. They are the best measure of how your fuel mixture is adjusted.
Check closely for vacuum leaks, including hoses, gaskets, the brake booster, and PCV valve.
Verify that you have a clean fuel filter.
Test the ignition wires and coil.
One of those should get you closer to the real problem.
