heads, cam and headers.

hi. here is my setup.
stock 350 target motor. hei distributor, and a t-56 6 speed with 3.73 gears.
what would be the best head and cam combo to run right now... i plan on a 50 to 75 hp shot of nitrous in the futrure, and im not really concerned about the bottom end right now. so do any of you guys have any suggestions?... i dont have very much knowledge about cams and such, so any help is appreciated. also, i figure i should get some headers while i have the thing down to a short block, i was thinking about hooker, since alot of you guys like them, how are clearance issues with them?.... im having a custom 3" y-pipe made, so i dont need that with it. thanks

Well, that all depends on what you want to accomplish. Are you wanting an out-of-the-hole monster or a top end racer? Or are you going in between? There are many good heads, cams and headers.

Give more details and you will get alot more reponses. Just good to hear from another person that likes the manual tranny. How was the T56 swap? I am considering it myself. I dont think the T-5 will hold up to 420 lb-ft of torque.

sorry for being vauge, i am looking for anything between 300 and 400 hp... not too lopey of a cam... im not too worried about it tho. it is a saturday night crusier, and i am mainly concerned about stoplight to stoplight action. ( i like torque) the budget is around 1500 to 2000 dollars, so i cant go out and buy super high compression aluminum heads or anything, but i would like somthing nice. and the t56 is not in yet... i need to get the flywheel for the 2 peice rear main first... does anybody know about that too? i did a search, and it looks like im pretty much on my own for that. but with the wealth of knowlege on here im not to worried about it.
hopefully all of this will go down next weekend, providing i get all the parts. i will take pictures and keep people posted if you guys want.

if you are only looking for 300-400 hp, I would say GMPP vortec heads, an edelbrck performer RPM vortec intake or the scroggin eqivalent, a 650 carb, a set of headman or hooker headers, and a hooker 3" cat-back exhaust. Also, pick up a set of subframe connectors. You dont want to twist the body with the torque.

That shoud get you 350-375 hp and around 375-400 lb-ft of torque. All together, it will be around $1800...give or take a little for gaskets and the misc. stuff.

oops. I darn near forgot the most important part. Get a good cam. I am going to be using the comp cams XE-268. good power range and not too lopey of an idle. That will be another $200 when you buy the kit (includes cam, lifters and timing chain).
