Fuel Pump
Can you put a fuel pump from a TPI into a F-Body TBI.
Second, how hard is it to change my fuel pump?? I think mine has gone. When I turn my key, I cant here my fuel pump prime, and the car will not start. When you pour gas down the tbi, it fires up no probs.
Thanks

fuel pump from a tpi will eventually smoke itself when its used at around 12psi in your set up. As for changing the fp, itsa real royal PITA. You have to drop the rear end and the tank intself to get access. Check your Fuel pump relay on the firewall first before you change the pump. The relay will cause the same symptoms.

Well I have this Idea, I got from a friend that did this with his truck..
Cut a whole in the back of the car. Pull the Pump, replace, and then throw the piece of body on hinges and bolted it back on. So basically if there is a dorr there, case I have to ever do it again.

Try to hook up a test light to the fuel pump 12volt source wire near the fuel tank. Turn the key ON while looking to see if the test light comes on.
If it does, but you don't hear the fuel pump run, then you probably do have a bad pump as the fuel pump is receiving power thru the relay.
By the way, when my friend and i changed the fuel pump on my '88 T/A 305 TPI, we did not have to drop the rear end. We did, however, have to remove a few rear suspension parts. Nothing too difficult.

it really isn't that hard, first you jack your car up,then, disconnect exhuast from behind the cats, after that,go to the back, put your jack under the rear end and lift, after you do that take the shields off, then after that, take the track brace off on both sides, then disconnect the fuel lines on the drivers side of the tank, then lower the rear end slowly, don't lower it all the way down, you want the jack to hold it a little, after you've done that loosen the straps on the tank, then lower the tank down, here comes the hard part, since you really can't take it completely off,you are going to lower it enough so you can see the fuel pump, then you pry off the lock and slowly remove the pump, you are going to work it out by moving it around until it comes out and that's how you do it,i won't lie to you it's a (pita) but you can do it,i changed my fuel pump on my gta 3 times and buy the 3 time i had it changed in about 2hrs,so good luck and go slow, look at what has to be done and you will do the job right, hope this helps you out,GM HOMBRE.
