Can I re-use my Pushrods?
Can I re-use my Pushrods?
I had a 91 305 TPI in my transam and i am now in the process of putting a 1975 350 in there which is not hydraulic roller, I am going to re-use my SLP cam, I have already ordered a cam button and new timing chain while I was there. My real question is do I need to use the 380$ Crane retrofit roller lifters
http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...25&prmenbr=361
or can I just use any of the after market roller lifters like the Lunati's shown here
http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...29&prmenbr=361
And can I reuse the pushrods I have now they are a new set of factory length hydraulic roller pushrods( they were in the car before the 305 died). If I can't what would the part number or size be for the new pushrods?
Thanks in advance.

You can use any "retrofit" roller lifters; Crane, Comp, Lunati, Ultradyne, etc. would all work.
You can probably re-use the push rods. Stock length push rods may be too short for optimum geometry, depending on the cam. Stock length is 7.290". .100" longer than that is a fairly typical requirement for a high lift cam.
You'll probably need new rocker arms, because your later model motor probably had "self-aligning" rockers, and your older 350 probably has push rod guide slots in the heads. You'll need to look at exactly what you've got and figure out about the rockers.
Make sure the timing set you use fits snugly over the nose of the cam, and provides the correct cam location in the block, front to rear. Your cam may sit too far back in the block (by the thickness of the factory's retainer plate) if you use a late model timing gear; or the gear may fit very loosely on the end of the cam and not center, if you use the early model timing gear on that late model cam. Check carefully.

Thanks for the reply. even though some may advise against it I am just going to use My 305 heads and TPI intake on the 350 for a little while. and The cam isn't all that agressive it's the 206/212 112 lsa cam. I am also using the cloyes tru roller timing chain for the 86 and older engines
I am planning on upgrading to the Pro action iron heads in the near future along with an LT1 intake and probably the LT4 hot cam kit which comes with the springs and roller rockers.
