Any Reason I can't put valve seals

I have a car that smokes only on startup, doesn't burn a drop while driving. First guess is valve guide seals. Picked up a kit and start changing them to find out there are only rubber mushroom seals on the intake. OK thats fine, it won't burn oil whil driving, but why aren't they on exhaust for when the valve guides start wearing. I think this is letting oil drip down the exhaust valve when parked for long periods of time allowing smoke on start up.

Is there any reason I can't put the rubber mushroom seals on the exhaust also, they fit right on the bosses.

thanks,

Bruce

Good 'ol gm decided that only the intake side needed umbrellas. The only way to reseal them is to use the umbrellas on both sides. Before GM acknowledge this was the right way, the fix was to use Ford seals, because they came with all 16 umbrellas.
